Welcome To The Track
Want to know what you're getting yourself into?
Take a look at our track map, or take a virtual tour of our cycle track!
The Runway is the straight(ish) length of tarmac leading to the start of our track, and the only part that is two-way. At the end of The Runway you'll see our shelter, where you can have a break from the weather, or enjoy a mid-cycle snack. The track then continues in a southerly direction until you get to our first corner . . .
Field of Sheep* is our first corner, and we wont insult your intelligence by explaining why. From there you'll pass a beautiful Oak tree, and keep heading east up an incline that looks gentle but trust us - it's harder than it looks! At the summit of this incline is our second corner. . .
*Sheep sightings likely, but not guaranteed.
Our second corner - Cottontail, is named for the fluffy white bums of the Roe Deer, and the white flashing tails of the Rabbits that can be seen in the field. Both are quite shy, so if you see any, count yourself lucky! After Cottontail, you'll head north and finally start to go downhill. At the bottom of the hill you can choose to go straight ahead into The Adventure Trail, or continue round the track and tackle our third corner. . .
The Adventure Trail was added to the track in 2019. You'll encounter some twists and turns, some ups and downs, and possibly a swamp monster. There are two main corners in The Adventure Trail. . .
Our third corner is 'Too Fast? Too Late' - It's rather sharp and at the bottom of a hill, so we'll leave it to your imagination how that got its name.
Trail Brake is our sixth, and second-to-last corner, named for a racing technique wherein you apply the brakes as you go into the corner, then slowly release them and increase power while turning it, a technique we recommend for this corner if you want to stay on your wheels. After that, you've only one corner to go. . .
You've reached our final corner - Watermill View, where you can look over the field and see our old watermill building, which still has its original water wheel inside. After that, a slight incline and a nice straight bit of track gets you to the finish line.
The first corner you'll face in The Adventure Trail is Capstones, which is one of the names given to the finishing stones on top of a dry-stone wall. The next corner is our sharpest one. . .
The Two Wheeler is a near hairpin bend, named because it doesn't matter how many wheels you were on before you got to it, if you're not careful, you'll only be going round it on two of them. A short, steep hill and a sharp right turn takes you out of The Adventure Trail and towards our next corner. . .
